Hi, I'm Fred. I make things for the web. Away from work you might find me down at the local indie cinema, out for a long run, in the mosh pit, or making a mess in the kitchen.

I moved to Oxford, UK back in 2019 and love it here. London was too hectic for me; Cambridge was too quiet; Oxford is just right. I can cycle into town in about 20 minutes, or head the other direction out to the countryside.

In July 2025 I started a year of independent software research. I want to find ways to make the Internet better. I don't like the way we've moved towards big corporations pushing farmed content and AI slop down the throats of consumers. Is there a better option?

Tech-wise I work primarily with TypeScript. I'm leaving heavily into the Effect ecosystem at the moment. I like strong types and fast tests. I've spent most of my career working with Python and Django. I use whatever gets the job done, and can flex up and down the stack: HTML, CSS, React, Svelte, Hono, FastAPI, SQL, Ansible, Terraform, it's all fine.
